Epstein has criticized the FBI’s conduct, claiming the raid violated legal standards that typically require notifying an investigation’s target and involving local U.S. Attorney’s offices. He further contends that the decisions made by Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray were not based on sound legal principles, but rather were aimed at political persecution.
“The FBI’s conduct in the raid was a severe and unacceptable intrusion that is highly offensive to a reasonable person,” Epstein wrote, further outlining plans to sue for punitive damages.
