When rescuers first encountered Buttercup and Bubbles, two adorable black-and-white kittens, their survival seemed uncertain. Both kittens had their umbilical cords wrapped tightly around a hind leg, cutting off circulation and causing severe damage.
A Critical Rescue Mission
Rescuers from Love Your Feral Felines, an organization that inspired Cat Man Chris’s early rescue work, rushed the 4-day-old kittens to the vet. The prognosis was grim: one kitten would need a leg amputation, and the other would lose a paw.
“The vet took immediate action, removing the damaged tissue and cleaning the area as best as possible. The kittens will need to undergo amputation surgery once they’re larger and stronger,” the rescuers shared.
Round-the-Clock Care
When the kittens reached 2 pounds, they would be ready for surgery, but their journey to that point was fraught with uncertainty.
Foster mom Kimmi provided constant care, ensuring the kittens had every chance to survive.
Due to the risk of infection, rescuers didn’t share the kittens’ story publicly for weeks, waiting until they were confident Buttercup and Bubbles would pull through.
The Resilient ‘Tripod Twins’
Thanks to Kimmi’s dedicated care, Buttercup and Bubbles reached three weeks old, and rescuers finally felt comfortable sharing their story. Despite their challenges, the kittens were unaware of their differences and displayed incredible resilience and happiness. They graduated from the incubator and began exploring the world like any other curious kittens.
“Bubbles and Buttercup are both super sweet, happy, energetic, and playful. I’m so glad we were able to help get them this far. ❤”
The Big Day Arrives
By the end of the following month, the kittens were thriving and almost ready for surgery.
“They LOVE to run, climb, and play just like normal kittens, even with their back peg leggies that need to be kept wrapped until removal. It’s amazing how active they are, and they don’t let their legs stop them from having a good time. They are also super sweet. 🥰,” said Kimmi.
The day of surgery arrived, and after nine weeks of living with their “peg legs,” the kittens were finally ready for the procedure. Buttercup came through the surgery just fine, while Bubbles needed an extra day of observation at the vet. Both kittens recovered beautifully, with Bubbles returning home even more energetic than before.
Thriving as Tripod Kitties
Both Buttercup and Bubbles adjusted quickly to life as tripod kitties, and nothing holds them back.
“They can climb up onto beds and couches with no issues, and they love to run around,” Kimmi said.
As the kittens grew into beautiful young ladies, they were ready for adoption. Despite their mobility challenges, Buttercup and Bubbles are loving life to the fullest.
Seeking a Forever Home
At the time of this writing, the little tripod twins may still be looking for a forever home in the southern California area.
“How come my lil tripod twins haven’t been adopted yet?! They are the most perfectest kittens ever! They are both energetic, playful, and they LOVE to cuddle. Someone adopt them! 😆”
