When people decide to adopt dogs, they often gravitate toward the cutest ones, leaving others with fewer chances to find a home. Sadly, less “cute” dogs often wait much longer for their forever family.
One of these dogs is Wally, a Pit Bull who has endured a difficult life and was hoping to be adopted in his golden years. At ten years old, Wally didn’t look like the ordinary dog people were searching for. He had several health issues, including blindness in one eye and a skin infection. Wally was brought in as a stray to the Town of Islip Animal Shelter on Long Island, NY.
A Rough Journey to Find a Home
Despite his tough exterior, Wally became a favorite among the shelter staff. With a sweet personality, Wally’s charm won over the workers, but it wasn’t enough to make him appealing to potential adopters. “Wally just likes to hang out without doing much and will do anything for some food,” said Danielle Gorle, a veterinary technician at the shelter.
Unfortunately, Wally spent over a year waiting for a home, as many people overlooked his unique beauty. His inability to get along with other animals also limited his chances since he needed to be the only pet in the home.
A Viral Story With a Happy Ending
Gorle shared that Wally wasn’t particularly happy when he first arrived, but his spirits improved over time. Thankfully, his story eventually went viral, and Wally finally found his forever home. He will now spend his remaining years with a loving family that will give him the care and affection he’s long deserved.
Wally’s journey reminds us that every dog deserves love, no matter their appearance or past.
