Many cats are adored for their unique markings—whether they’re stripes, swirls, or patches. Tuxedo cats, in particular, are known for their striking “formal attire” look, but one tuxedo cat named Bangs has markings that stand out even more. With what appears to be a freshly trimmed fringe on her face, Bangs has captured the hearts of many. I reached out to her owner after seeing her adorable photos on the Tuxedo Cat Lovers group on Facebook, and I’m excited to introduce you to this special kitty.
Everyone, Meet Bangs!
How Did Bangs Come Into Your Life?
“She came into my life in October of last year,” Bangs’ owner shared. “I had just moved into my first apartment and was feeling lonely living alone. I decided to adopt a cat and started searching on Petfinder. When I saw her picture, something about her stood out. Even after looking at other cats, I knew I had to meet her. It felt like fate.”
Bangs was waiting at the shelter, and her owner was surprised she hadn’t been adopted already. “When I first met her, she tried to sink into the floor and become invisible. The people who found her said that her previous owners didn’t have time to take care of her properly, so she was never fully socialized. I used a trick I saw on a Jackson Galaxy show—letting her sniff my glasses—and within minutes, she was holding onto my arm. I couldn’t say no after that.”
Since being adopted, Bangs has slowly opened up to her new home. “She’s still very skittish and timid, but she’s come a long way. She’s not a big cuddler, but she shows her love in her own ways—like making sure she has at least one paw touching me when we go to sleep at night.”
A Special Bond of Rescue and Healing
Kris, Bangs’ owner, not only rescued this sweet tuxedo cat but also has plans to give back to the shelter that helped bring them together. An author with Asperger’s and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), Kris says that adopting Bangs has been a life-changing experience. “She’s really helped me come out of my shell. I’m donating the proceeds from my first book to the shelter that helped me find her.”
What Makes Bangs So Special?
“We rescued each other,” Kris explains. “As someone with Asperger’s and BDD, I know what it’s like to feel different, and when I saw Bangs on Petfinder, there was a comment that made me think people didn’t like how different she looked. But I adopted her anyway, and as I started sharing her pictures online, I realized people absolutely loved her! She’s helped me embrace my own differences and has shown me that whether you’re a human or a cat, being different can be beautiful.”
Bangs may be a shy cat with unique markings, but she’s a shining example of how special and transformative the bond between a pet and their owner can be. Through love, patience, and understanding, Bangs and Kris are showing the world that embracing differences leads to the most beautiful connections.
