Canadian kitten foster mom, Jules, recently rescued a wild brown kitten named Bear, but the rescue wasn’t without its challenges. In fact, Jules earned some battle scars after Bear escaped a TNR trap, forcing her to catch him by hand. Unfortunately, Bear bit her, leading to an infection that required antibiotics and medical attention. Thankfully, she recovered quickly.
From Fear to Trust
At first, Bear was terrified, refusing to eat or use the litter box while Jules watched. However, she patiently gave him time to adjust, understanding that he just needed space to feel safe. Jules attempted to pet him with a gloved hand after the initial bite, and slowly, Bear began to trust her.

Sure enough, within a few days, Bear underwent a dramatic transformation. Once he realized that Jules wouldn’t harm him, his wild demeanor softened. The once frightened kitten allowed her to bathe him, which was a necessity due to his stinky fur and several large ticks.
A Warm Bath and a New Beginning
Jules was pleasantly surprised by how calm Bear was during his much-needed bath. After being cleaned up, Bear’s true personality began to shine. He quickly grew fond of attention and snuggles, transforming into a lovable, fluffy brown ‘teddy bear’ with a white belly and one adorable white toe.

Rescuing a Brown Bear Kitten
Online, people were smitten by Bear’s chocolate-colored fur, and many were amazed that Jules found him through her rescue work. While brown cats are relatively rare and tend to draw attention, rescuers know that beautiful and unique cats can often be found in shelters or struggling to survive outdoors.
It’s important to remember that sometimes, a cat’s fur color may change due to stress or illness during pregnancy, resulting in a condition called “fever coat.” These changes are often temporary and can last anywhere from four months to a year.
As always, rescue and adoption are better than shopping from breeders. Bear’s irresistible charm and his cute white toe quickly won the hearts of many, including his future adopters.
Bear Finds His Forever Home
Ultimately, what mattered most was finding Bear a loving home where he would be appreciated for all the right reasons—and that’s exactly what happened. Bear met his new adopter and, unsurprisingly, charmed them with his playful antics and affectionate nature.
Goodbye is the Goal for Foster Kittens
Though Jules was sad to say goodbye, she knew that this was always the goal for her foster kittens. She understands this well, having previously adopted her own “foster fail,” an orange fluff ball named Kimchi, who loved snuggling with Bear.

Jules’s other adopted kitty is Haku, rescued from a dumpster in Quebec, Canada. Haku quickly became her best friend and formed a strong bond with Kimchi. While Jules’s home is filled with adorable foster kittens, Haku, a sleek black cat, holds a special place in her heart.
“Black cats are the best. Honestly, they’re so underrated,” Jules shared.
