“Windows to your Soul” is a metaphor often used to describe the eyes, as they reveal true emotions if you pay close attention. Cats’ eyes, in particular, are captivating and hypnotic, essential for tasks like hunting or tracking that elusive laser pointer. Unfortunately, Prince Louis the cat came dangerously close to losing his sight.
Meet Prince Louis, The Cat
Prince Louis, a four-year-old Maine Coon stray, arrived at the Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home (CDCH) in Cambridge, UK, in very poor condition. He suffered from a heart murmur, nasal discharge, and numerous surface wounds, likely the result of catfights. However, the most concerning issue was his eyes—Prince Louis had been diagnosed with Feline Entropion.
What is Feline Entropion?
Entropion is a painful condition in which the eyelid folds inward, causing the eyelashes to constantly rub against the cornea, leading to severe irritation. Left untreated, it can cause bacterial infections and even permanent blindness. Persian and Maine Coon cats, like Prince Louis, are particularly prone to this affliction.
Despite his challenges, Prince Louis never lost his lively spirit. Mina Fuge, one of the caretakers at CDCH, said:
“Even though he arrived in our care in a bad way, he has always been such a happy, fun-loving boy who wants nothing more than playtime and cuddles.”
Prince Louis soaked up all the extra care and affection from his rescuers, maintaining his playful and affectionate demeanor.
Life-Saving Surgery
Thanks to the generosity of supporters, Prince Louis underwent the much-needed surgery to correct his condition. The surgery was a success, giving him a second chance at a bright future.
A Prince Finds His Castle
Not only did Prince Louis make a full recovery, but he also found his forever home. His new family, or “subjects,” shared their joy:
“Prince Louis has become king of the castle and our hearts. He settled right in, stealing my daughter’s bed and my youngest child’s Lego. He acts just like a kitten.”
Love and Generosity Save the Day
Thanks to the tireless efforts of the volunteers at CDCH, Prince Louis’s story had a happy ending. His journey from a stray cat on the brink of blindness to the beloved “king” of his new home is a testament to the power of love and generosity.
For many other animals like Prince Louis, adoption is a chance at a new life. Every day, pets up for adoption look into our eyes, hoping for a forever home, and Prince Louis’s story reminds us of the magic that can happen when we choose to help.
In Prince Louis’s case, love and generosity truly saved the cat—and he and his new family will live happily ever after.
