Adopting from a shelter is always a great idea, but late summer is especially perfect. Shelters everywhere are at capacity, and thanks to generous donations and sponsors, you might even find lower adoption fees. And why not go for a two-for-one deal? As many cat parents will tell you, adopting a bonded pair is almost always the best choice. That’s exactly what Vanessa discovered after she brought home a black and white kitten duo from her local shelter.
Black and White Duo is ‘Highly, Highly Recommended!’
Like many pet adopters, Vanessa Chatterley likely didn’t plan on adopting more than one kitten. After all, she and her husband already had three cats—Kit Kat, Henry, and Rory—at home. However, everything changed when Vanessa discovered that the kitten she had her eye on was closely bonded with another cat.
At that moment, she couldn’t leave one behind. So, she adopted both Simon (white) and Wesley (black)—a purrfectly matched pair. The adorable photos and videos of the two together quickly melted hearts online. Just like people, having a friend makes everything better for these kittens.
Check out the video below to see all the adventures Simon and Wesley had on their first day home. While it can take up to three months for kittens to adjust to a new home, these two made the transition smoother by having each other.
Vanessa shared, “POV: You decide it wouldn’t be right to separate the cats that bonded in the shelter, and you have to adopt both. Highly highly recommend 🖤🤍.”
Why Adopting a Bonded Pair is Best
Many online users echoed Vanessa’s sentiments, with people chiming in about the benefits of adopting bonded pairs. Regardless of age or fur color, what truly matters is the strong bond they share.
“Always best to adopt cats in twos, especially bonded pairs! It helps them so much to have each other for playing, grooming, and keeping from being lonely. They learn so much from each other,” said Sharon S.
Learning to ‘Cat’ Isn’t Always Black and White
Adopting kittens means you’ll experience some wild antics. Many kittens in shelters have missed out on the carefree kitten life and may need extra time to figure out how to be a cat. Having a buddy like Wesley helps Simon figure things out faster.
Additionally, Simon and Wesley will learn from their older cat siblings, like Henry. For example, Wesley was quite taken with Henry’s plush pink cat bed. Henry graciously shared the bed for a little while, with some encouragement!
Of course, we humans can help them learn, too!
“He’s still learning how to ‘cat,’” Vanessa joked.
A Happy Life for Simon, Wesley, and Family
Wesley and Simon are now thriving in their new home, filled with love, playtime, and the comfort of their bonded friendship. To keep up with their adventures, you can follow Vanessa and her family on Instagram and TikTok.
