In the quiet town of Marshall, Virginia, a kind-hearted individual stumbled upon a heart-wrenching scene. In the middle of the road, they heard a desperate cry echoing through the area. As they approached, they discovered a tiny, helpless kitten, seemingly thrown from a car and left to fend for herself.
A Cry for Help
The kitten, later named Poppet, was in dire straits. She was emaciated, terrified, and covered in ticks. Her tiny body showed signs of severe neglect, and she was suffering from intense stomach discomfort and diarrhea. Worst of all, her front paws were broken, leaving her unable to move properly.
Recognizing the urgent need for help, the Good Samaritan carefully scooped Poppet off the road and took her to the local animal rescue organization, To The ResQ. The volunteers there quickly realized that Poppet required specialized care beyond what they could provide.
A Call for Specialized Care
To The ResQ reached out to the Chris Griffey Memorial Feline Foundation (CGMFF) in Arlington, Virginia. Ellen M. Carozza, the president of CGMFF, didn’t hesitate to take Poppet in. Ellen was confident that her team could provide the specialized care that Poppet desperately needed.
Upon arriving at CGMFF, Ellen immediately removed Poppet’s old splints, gave her a thorough bath to rid her of the ticks, and applied fresh splints to her front paws. Ellen shared Poppet’s story on her Instagram, where it quickly garnered praise and support for her dedication to saving this precious life.
Poppet’s Road to Recovery
Under Ellen’s care, Poppet began to thrive. She was given nutritious food to help her gain weight and received the necessary medication to ease her stomach issues. Despite her rough start, Poppet’s playful and loving personality began to shine through.
After more than two weeks of careful attention, the time finally came to remove Poppet’s splints. Ellen joyfully shared the news on Instagram: “Look who took her paddles off today! She decided enough is enough and wants them off.”
With her splints removed, Poppet’s true kitten spirit emerged. She eagerly explored her surroundings, jumped around with newfound energy, and even showed a particular interest in Ellen’s plants. Poppet’s antics were a clear sign that she was ready for the next chapter in her life.
A Forever Home
Not long after, Poppet’s story took another wonderful turn. A compassionate cat lover expressed interest in adopting her. From being abandoned on a lonely road, Poppet was now on her way to a forever home where she would be loved and cared for.
