Heartwarming Hospice Adoption Allows ‘Griffin’ the Cat to Experience Pure Love

Blog

When we bring a cat into our lives, we hope for years filled with love and companionship. However, some cats have a much shorter time to experience the world. In those moments, a hospice or “fospice” adoption becomes a powerful act of kindness, offering a cat the chance to live their final days in comfort and love. This is exactly what happened for Griffin, a cat from the Humane Society of Greater Dayton.

Griffin Urgently Needed Help

Griffin’s life began in hardship. He lived in an overcrowded home where he was neglected, only to later develop an extremely rare and aggressive cancer. When he finally found his way to rescuers, they discovered the cancer had caused large growths in his ears, face, nose, and mouth.

Despite the “unimaginable hardships” Griffin faced, he remained sweet, loving, and playful, much like a kitten. Sadly, the cancer meant that Griffin might only have a couple of months left to live.

But, as his rescuers hoped, maybe he would once again defy the odds.

The Call for a Loving Home

With time being fleeting, the shelter urgently sought a hospice adopter for Griffin, someone who could offer him the warmth and comfort of a loving home during his remaining days.

“Griffin has time left, but the shelter isn’t the place for him. We’re searching for a special someone who can offer comfort, love, and a chance to experience pure joy in his remaining days,” the shelter wrote.

Griffin Finds His Forever Home

It takes a special person to open their heart to a hospice adoption, and Griffin was fortunate to find such a soul. Shortly after his story was shared, a kind individual with experience in rescuing special needs cats stepped forward to bring Griffin home.

The joy was palpable online, with nearly 100 people expressing their happiness for Griffin.

“Griffin Found His Forever Home! We’re overjoyed to announce that Griffin has found his forever home! His new adopter is an incredible person with a history of rescuing special needs cats, and we’re confident Griffin will be showered with love and care for the time he has left,” shared the Humane Society of Greater Dayton.

Understanding Griffin’s Condition

Unfortunately, Griffin suffers from an extremely rare and aggressive form of skin cancer called malignant melanoma, which affects only about two percent of cats diagnosed with cancer. This type of cancer tends to appear in older cats and can impact areas such as the eyes, skin, nose, and mouth. While it is common in dogs, it is much rarer in felines.

For cats like Griffin, every day is a gift. And thanks to his new family, Griffin can now spend his remaining days surrounded by love and warmth. We send Griffin and his family all our love and healing purrs, hoping for many happy moments together.
