In Florida, where kitten season is a year-round affair, summer is the ideal time to help “Clear the Shelters” with adoptions taking place nationwide. Even the Miami Heat basketball players are getting involved!
Recently signed to the team, basketball star Kel’el Ware has already made a name for himself. The former Oregon Duck and Indiana Hoosier, with his impressive 7-foot-4.5-inch wingspan, is known for his versatile and crowd-pleasing performance on the court. But today, we’re not focusing on sports. Instead, we’re talking about how Kel’el is scoring big points with cat lovers everywhere!

There’s nothing like having a furry companion to make a house feel like home.
At this time of year, shelters and rescues are overflowing with animals in need of loving homes. Adopting two bonded kittens or cats is often recommended, as it makes the transition easier for everyone involved. (And why stop at two when you could adopt three?)
“Since y’all loved the cat content so much, here’s some more pics of Kel’el & Lykos 🥹,” the Miami Heat shared.
Miami Heat Says ‘Adopt, Don’t Shop!’
“It’s not home without a pet to share it with ❤️ Kel’el Ware teamed up with Miami-Dade Animal Services and their foster providers to adopt his new kitten, Lykos!
“Make sure you adopt, don’t shop if you’re looking for a best friend of your own!” the Miami Heat encouraged.
Kel’el Chose Lykos, Or Did Lykos Choose Him?
As shown in the video, Kel’el selected a beautiful kitten with a relaxed purrsonality. However, it’s important to note that a cat or kitten may behave differently in a shelter environment. They need time in a safe home before their true personality shines through. It usually takes about three months for a cat or kitten to feel fully at home, making the adjustment period a crucial part of adopting a pet.

If a cat or kitten appears nervous or stressed, it doesn’t mean they will always be that way in a loving home. Conversely, a calm kitten might become more playful once settled in. However, watching Lykos, it’s clear that he already trusts his new Dad—a promising sign of the good times ahead!
“I’m looking for a cat that can just chill with me. You know, just sit beside me,” Kel’el said.
In this case, the fluffy Lykos was so relaxed that he even fell asleep and purred in his future Dad’s arms. It’s a rare and heartwarming sight for a first-time meeting.
“He’s just chillin’ in whatever position he’s in. Look at him. This might be the one; look at him, he’s purring,” Kel’el remarked.
The Charm of Orange Cats
But an online comment had us all laughing:
“Should we tell him?” one person asked.
This comment alludes to what many of us know well: orange cats are famously unpredictable, which is part of their charm! It’s why we adore orange kitties like Marm and Bond so much.
