How The World’s Largest Midsummer Halloween Convention Helps Cats Find Their Forever Homes

Blog

For cat lovers in California, there’s no shortage of events to attend, and this year was no exception. Right before attending the ninth annual CatCon Worldwide, Nathan the Cat Lady made a pit stop at an unforgettable Halloween celebration: Midsummer Scream. But what does a convention focused on haunted houses and all things spooky have to do with cats? As it turns out, this event is the purrfect opportunity to help many cats find their forever homes!

Kitten Rescue at Midsummer Scream

“🧡🖤 Kitten Rescue at Midsummer Scream! 🖤🧡 What goes together better than Cats and Halloween and Horror? 🎃 We think there’s nothing better, so once again, Kitten Rescue will have a magical ROOM FULL of cats and kittens ready to meet you at the 🐈‍⬛ BLACK CAT LOUNGE 🐈‍⬛ this weekend. WE ARE BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER!” shared Kitten Rescue LA.

Inside the Black Cat Lounge, an entire room was dedicated to finding homes for adoptable cats and kittens, all while celebrating the spooky season. Inflatable black cats, Halloween decorations, and, of course, plenty of adoptable felines set the perfect scene.

Midsummer Scream and the Black Cat Lounge

Held at the Long Beach Convention Center from July 26-28, the world’s largest Halloween convention returned with a record sold-out attendance of over 50,000 people! Since its inception in 2016, Midsummer Scream has drawn massive crowds, with attendees arriving in some of the most elaborate costumes you’ve ever seen.

The classic Halloween black cat has long been a symbol at Midsummer Scream, blending seamlessly with the convention’s eerie atmosphere.

This year, the Black Cat Lounge was a major attraction, where people lined up to meet adoptable cats from Kitten Rescue LA.

Nathan the Cat Lady Joins the Fun

For the second consecutive year, Nathan the Cat Lady was at the Black Cat Lounge, greeting fans and helping cats find homes. Inside the convention center, visitors had the chance to interact with the adoptable kitties, with many deciding to bring a new furry friend home. Nathan shared how much fun he had and even hinted at returning next year:

“Not only were we getting cats adopted thanks to Kitten Rescue LA, but there was also an amazing after-party where everyone in costume just danced,” he shared.

A Spooky Endorsement from Pet Sematary’s Church the Cat

This year, the Black Cat Lounge received an official endorsement from Church the Cat, the feline star of Paramount Pictures’ Pet Sematary movies.

The endorsement added an extra layer of spookiness and excitement to the event, drawing even more visitors to the lounge.

Last Year’s Success at the Black Cat Lounge

In 2022, the Black Cat Lounge helped at least 18 kittens find homes during Midsummer Scream. Among them was a kitten named Jamie Lee Purr-Hiss,

who became a fan favorite. The event was such a hit that this year saw even longer lines of eager attendees waiting to meet the adoptable cats.

One of the memorable moments included a Michael Myers look-alike, who, in real life, has a black cat named Michael Meowers!

The scene of people in costumes cuddling with adoptable cats, whether they were black or otherwise, was truly a sight to behold.

A Spooktacular Success

The Black Cat Lounge at Midsummer Scream is a testament to the power of combining love for animals with a passion for Halloween. This spooktacular event not only offers attendees a fun way to celebrate the season but also provides countless cats with the chance to find loving homes. With kitten season at its peak, the timing couldn’t be better for such an event, ensuring that many more ghouls, goblins, and witches find their perfect feline familiars.

In the words of Nathan the Cat Lady, “Life is just better with cats,” and thanks to events like Midsummer Scream, more cats are getting the chance to prove just that.
