Not all heroes wear capes—some wear nothing but a smile, like Harley! This heroic Goldendoodle from Virginia made headlines around the world for his remarkable act of bravery when he jumped into action to rescue a baby fawn from drowning.

Harley, a six-year-old Goldendoodle, was enjoying a day by the lake with his owner, Ralph Dorn, when something extraordinary happened. Ralph noticed Harley about 200 feet from shore, paddling with an unknown animal. As he got closer, Ralph realized that Harley was in the middle of a rescue mission.

Harley Immediately Rushed Into Action

Ralph Dorn, who has always known his Goldendoodle, Harley, to be intuitive and intelligent, was still surprised by his dog’s heroic actions. Harley had seen the fawn struggling in the water and without hesitation, leaped into action.

“Harley must’ve seen the fawn out in the water and just jumped into action,” said Ralph.

Paddling With His Friend Until They Were Safe

Helping the fawn, which was only a few days old, was no easy task. The baby fawn was disoriented and lacked the coordination to swim to safety. Harley skillfully guided the fawn to the shore, herding it back whenever it tried to turn away.

“Every time the fawn tried to turn away, Harley would herd it back towards the shoreline and they kept getting closer and closer,” Ralph recalled.

Once they reached the shore, Harley began licking the fawn, caring for it as if it were his own. He stayed with the fawn, ensuring it was safe.

A Beautiful Friendship Was Made

Shortly after the rescue, the fawn’s mother appeared on the lawn. Ralph and Harley retreated inside to allow the mother and baby to reunite peacefully.

Ralph thought that was the end of the story, but the next morning brought another surprise. While Ralph and his wife, Patricia, were having coffee, Harley began running from one window to another. He clearly wanted to go outside. Ralph opened the door, and Harley dashed out to find the baby fawn, which was bleating nearby.

Harley and the fawn shared a few moments together, sniffing and wagging their tails. After their brief reunion, Harley returned to the house, content and happy to have seen his little friend again.

Harley’s Heroic Nature

Harley’s extraordinary ability to help others isn’t surprising to those who know him. Before this heroic rescue, he worked as a certified therapy dog, helping the elderly and children in his local community. Harley has always been ready to jump into action to help others whenever needed. That’s just who he is—the perfect Goldendoodle!

Harley’s story is a touching reminder of the incredible bond between humans and animals and the innate kindness that exists in the animal kingdom. His bravery and compassion have touched the hearts of many, making him a true hero in every sense of the word.
