How does a cat know when they’ve found “their” human? We can’t fully comprehend how they just know, but it’s a wonderful thing to witness. Over the years, we’ve seen countless examples of cats instinctively knowing when the right person comes along. Clearly, we could all use a cat’s talent for picking the right folks to be around. Here’s a perfect example where a cat named Bubba knew the instant he saw his future Cat Dad at a rescue in Idaho Falls, ID.
Bubba the Cat Knew the Minute He Saw Dad
Bubba arrived at the shelter around three months old with his sister Diva, who was adopted before him. On July 18, 2018, a couple from West Jordan, Utah, made the journey to the Snake River Animal Shelter in Idaho to adopt a cat. Alexis, her boyfriend Gus, and his sister drove for 3.5 hours with a mission: to find the perfect cat for Gus’s sister, which she happily did.
But in the meantime, another feline named Bubba spotted Gus. As seen in the video below, Bubba undeniably chose Gus as his human on the spot!

Curiously, the cat clung to Gus with all his might, refusing to let anyone else hold him. It was so adorable and seemed meant to be. So it’s no surprise that Gus and Alexis chose to adopt him on the spot, too! They came back the next day to finalize TWO adoptions.
Two Cats Found Homes
On the long drive home, the kitty busted out of the cardboard carrier and immediately got back to cuddling! Gus and Bubba watched movies together the rest of the way.
“It was a 3.5-hour drive home. He broke out of the box within 10 minutes and cuddled with us in the car the whole time. He’s so sweet,” Alexis shared.
Meanwhile, Gus’s sister was thrilled to see her brother find his soul cat. She adopted her soul cat too, Misty, a gorgeous dilute calico kitty seen in the TikTok below.
“Thank you @Snake River Animal Shelter 🐾 for giving us two amazing cats!” Alexis shared.
The Journey Continues
The kitty and his dad spent many wonderful moments together.
They were destined to be together, even making the same face sometimes.
A couple of months later, a black kitten, Onyx, joined the family. The sweet void kitten was welcomed with open paws by his older brother.
An update two years later shows all the kitties are doing fabulously. Bubba has grown huge and has a luxurious fluffy coat now.
“He’s very happy and very fluffy,” Alexis said.
Bubba’s story is a heartwarming reminder of the special bond that can form between pets and their humans. From the moment he saw Gus, Bubba knew he had found his forever home, and the love and joy they share is truly special.
