A Pup Left Behind
When M. Roger Massey heard whispers of a lone Pittie stranded in the woods, he felt an immediate urge to help. Little did he know, this rescue would be one of his most challenging yet.
For three weeks, Roger tirelessly tried to approach the scared pup, even reaching out to multiple animal rescues for assistance. The dog, unfamiliar with human kindness due to his traumatic past, kept his distance. Roger shared his concerns on Facebook, writing, “I bring him food and water, but he remains wary of me. He’s more comfortable with my dogs.
With just 3 legs, it’s clear he’s faced severe abuse.” This dog, later named Pappas, was trapped in memories of his dark past, mistaking Roger’s intentions as potentially harmful.
Roger, however, was undeterred. He persisted in his efforts, ensuring Pappas was fed and hydrated, all while seeking professional help. His determination paid off when Saving Hope Animal Rescue answered his call.
The Turning Point
The sight of two volunteers seemed to be the catalyst for Pappas’ decision to leave the woods behind. Exhausted and overwhelmed, he allowed them to gently leash him. The moment one of the rescuers touched him, a transformation occurred.
The once fearful Pappas revealed his true nature: a loving, affectionate Pit Bull. The joy was palpable.
“His eyes tell a story of hope, and he’s so affectionate, always wanting to be by his human’s side,” remarked Lauren Anton, the executive director of Saving Hope Animal Rescue.
A Fresh Start
Upon his arrival at the rescue center, Pappas underwent a thorough medical examination. Despite being diagnosed with severe arthritis and heartworm, his spirit remained unbroken. With prompt medical care and a newfound charm, Pappas quickly found a loving foster home.
There, he experienced genuine love and care, perhaps for the first time. It’s a testament to the resilience of animals and a reminder that amidst the challenges, there are always kind-hearted souls ready to help.
