Early this morning, a German Shepherd was spotted struggling to stay afloat near the shores of Fairhaven Lake, having apparently spent the night trapped in the water. Alerted by an early passerby on March 25, local authorities, including the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, along with helpful citizens, quickly mobilized to rescue the distressed dog.
The dog has since been entrusted to the local RSPCA, where it is reported to be safe and recovering. LancsLive notes that the dog is currently receiving medical care at The Veterinary Health Centre. The owner of the German Shepherd will be required to provide proper identification to reclaim their pet.
In a concerted effort to locate the dog’s owner, the police have initiated an information-seeking campaign and are reviewing CCTV footage from around the lake. They have also issued a public call for information.
Fylde Police shared via social media: “We can confirm that the dog was rescued by our colleagues at Lancs Fire & Rescue, along with several members of the public. This was a wonderful outcome. The dog is now securely under the protection of the neighborhood RSPCA. We are examining the area’s CCTV to help identify the owner of the dog. Were you in the area? Did you see anything? Is this your dog? If so, please report it online or call 101, citing log number 0243 for today. Thank you for all your assistance.”
